THIS IS A DIY KIT!!!! You will recieve the same parts we use in our welded bumpers, but will be required to assemble and weld it yourself!

 

Introducing the first production high clearance rear bumper designed for the 4th gen 4runner! It features unmatched looks, strength, and has more clearance than any other bumper on the market. By removing the rear crossmember and factory tow hitch, you are gaining nearly 9 inches of clearance at the rear end for a substantial increase in departure angle.

 

Aside from the aggressive style and low profile fitment, it was carefully engineered with materials to take a beating while keeping weight to a minimum. The base bumper weighs in at only 75 lbs with hardware! Once you add the full width swingout with tire carrier (52 lbs), accessory mounting panel (9 lbs), and fold down aluminum camp table (8 lbs) it brings the total weight to around 144 lbs with hardware.

 

One of the more interesting features of this bumper is that it doesn’t fit just one model or trim level, but several. With countless hours of engineering, the bumper has been designed to fit not just the 4th gen 4runner, but also the 5th gen 4runner, Lexus GX470, and Lexus GX460! How is that possible you ask? The key was removing the rear crossmember. Once that's out of the picture you are left with nearly identical frame rails. Unfortunately the factory mounting points on the bottom of the frame rails aren’t exactly the same between models but are close, so those are bolted down through large slots on the base plates of the bumper. You can then move the bumper forward or backwards slightly to get your preferred fitment. You then mark and drill a set of holes straight up through the frame rails to be concentric with nuts welded to a bracket on the bumper that rests on the top side of the frame. Large m12 grade 8 bolts are passed through the holes and are used to lock the bumper in place from moving forward or backward. Because of the dual shear mounting brackets sandwiching the frame, it gives back much of the strength that was taken away by cutting out the crossmember.

 

A few other notable features:

  • The swingout components are symmetrical and can be built to open either direction.

  • Includes tabs for mounting pod lights. Recommended for use with either Baja Designs S2’s or Diode Dynamics SSC2’s. Other similar sized cheaper lights may also work. You may have to use different mounting hardware.

  • Swingout has three different locking locations with standard spindle. 1st, locks when closed. 2nd, locks at 95 degrees. 3rd, locks at 120 degrees. In the 3rd position, the swingout and hatch won't interfere when open.
  • Optional Ratha Designs dual shear HD hinge upgrade allows for a stronger hinge to run larger spares/more gear weight. Locks when closed, at 90 degrees, and at 120 degrees.
  • Accessories panel features hole patterns compatible with RotoPax mounts.
  • Tire carrier with standard spindle is designed for use with spares up to 35”. Up to 37" with Ratha hinge.
  • Wheel mount on the tire carrier has multiple mounting locations and can be raised or lowered.

  • Aluminum camp table has built-in bottle openers.

  • It is recommended for the swingout to be built with the spindle and tire carrier on the right/passenger side. This helps level out the rear and correct any lean caused by the gas tank on the drivers side. 

  • All mounting hardware is grade 8 or stronger.

  • Recovery points are 1/2" thick and pass through to the inside of the bumper.

  • License plate relocation mounting holes on swingout.

IT COMES IN PIECES AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS AND WELDING IT YOURSELF. Failure to follow the instructions, using the incorrect tools, not welding on a flat surface, or not properly fixturing parts while welding may lead to the bumper not fitting correctly and/or not being as strong as it was designed to be.

  • NO TOW RATING! INTENDED FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY.

  • HIGH CLEARANCE VERSION REQUIRES CUTTING AND REMOVAL OF THE REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBER.

  • FLAT RATE SHIPPING: The average cost to ship a base bumper kit within the lower 48 is $115. Swingout (including add-ons) adds $70. The base bumper and swingout components are packaged and shipped in two separate boxes. See more details under the SHIPPING INFO tab.

  • REQUIRES ADDITIONAL HOLES DRILLED THROUGH FRAME RAILS FOR MOUNTING.

  • CUTTING OF PLASTIC BUMPER COVER IS REQUIRED.

  • WILL NOT WORK WITH SPARE IN FACTORY LOCATION.

  • No guarantee on the swingout working with hatch mounted ladders.

  • Designed for stock body height and suspension lifted vehicles only. Having a body lift will result in a different fitment than pictured. You will need to cut the plastic cover at a different height.

  • Depending on wheel offset, you may have to run spacers in order to prevent the sides of the tire from hitting the swingout.

  • Swingout can be added to the bumper later on. Please reach out for a custom invoice if you would like to order.

  • Max recommended tire size is 35”. 

  • When running the swingout with a spare or extra weight from gear, you may experience a slight shake or bounce when hitting repetitive bumps.

  • When running the swingout with a spare, the factory license location will be partially covered. You will need to relocate your license plate.

  • The parts are shipped as raw steel. There may be evidence of oils, areas with light surface rust, and shallow scratches caused during manufacturing and/or shipping.

  • Once again, THE RECEIVER IS NOT RATED!!! It was designed to be as strong as possible and comparable to the oem capacity, but LEGALLY WE CAN'T GIVE IT A RATING. It is intended for offroad use only and towing a trailer or carrying any hitch mounted accessories on public highways is at your own risk and the user takes all liability. We can not provide any insight or recommendations as to what you can safely tow. Use your best judgment.
